Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Will aesthetic interventions be assumed by health insurance funds?

As the name “aesthetic” implies, these interventions involve non-pathological skin alterations. This is why an assumption of costs is ruled out, at least among the statutory health insurance funds.

Do I have to protect myself against the sun after interventions?

After any laser treatment as well as any operation the treated area should be protected against intensive solar radiation for the duration of approx. 4 weeks.

Can acne be treated by lasers?

IPL-Technology can suppress acne inflammation. Several appointments are necessary in order to have the centre of the inflammation disappear.

Is it true that statutory health insurance funds do not pay for skin cancer screening?

This medically important examination is at present partially assumed by statutory health insurance funds every 2 years for patients age 35 and over. In this respect you must only pay the additional costs for the required reflected-light microscopy which allows us to decide whether a mark is benign or malignant.

Younger patients (< 35 years) are currently not supported by health insurance funds, and so they must bear the examination costs on their own.

Which side effects can be expected with laser resurfacing?

During the procedure and the subsequent healing the skin is sensitive to pathogens. For this reason we conduct these procedures with sufficient protection of antibiotics and antiviral (drugs against herpes). After a week of recovery in compliance with sun protection no side effects are to be expecte.

How long do laser procedures remain visible on the skin?

It depends on the type of procedure. In the case of skin resurfacing, the skin remains inflamed for approximately one week. After recovery, the newly-formed skin remains reddened for a little while. For other procedures, no adverse effects are visible on the skin other than a little redness.

How often can laser treatments be repeated?

Properly conducted laser treatments do not damage the skin. Therefore, there is no limit for laser treatments. However, procedures of all types should only be conducted when necessary.

Does the skin have to be prepared for laser resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing works on all water-containing cells. If the skin is dehydrated the effect of the laser treatment is limited. We prepare our patient’s skin with 2-3 moisturising cosmetic treatments before any procedures. The recovery time after a procedure can also be reduced by moisturising treatments.

Are laser treatments painful?

Surgical laser treatments are painful. Therefore, these procedures are performed with local anaesthesia or, for extensive procedures with an Analgo-sedation (similar to a short sleep.) Other laser interventions such as laser hair removal, photorejuvenation and vascular treatments are found to be unpleasant but not painful.

As us about your individual case. We can then inform you about the best therapy and the associated costs during a consultation.

Are there any adverse effects to botulinum toxin treatments?

Botulinum toxin is a biological poison. The effects of the poison lead to the paralysis of muscles and sweat glands around the injection area. We really use the adverse affect of the toxin to get the desired effect. Therefore, precise knowledge of skin anatomy is very important in order to relax the desired muscles. Incorrect injection techniques could lead to undesired paralysis. Because the effect of the toxin is limited (6 to a maximum of 9 months), the adverse affects are also time-limited.

Does your cosmetician conduct the injections?

No. A wrinkle injection should only be conducted by an experienced doctor. For optimal results without side effects, only the practitioner can have extensive knowledge of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, nerves and blood vessel supply. So in our practice these injections are only conducted by specialists.

Are wrinkle injections suitable for all skin types?

The skin type plays no role in wrinkle injections. However, the results for smokers do not last as long as those for non-smokers.
